Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Our experience tells us that it is common mental health problems which are the major causes of sickness absence and poor health in the workplace. We know for example that individuals bring their skills, aspirations, burdens, and vulnerabilities to work. Our focus over the last 10 years has been to promote work as a means of improving psychological wellbeing and we have developed workplace based rehabilitation services to treat common emotional problems such as stress anxiety and depression.

We offer our clients Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which is a NICE recommended evidenced based effective intervention. CBT has been proven to help people with emotional health problems remain in and/or return to work. We have proven track records in delivering this unique service to the business sector and we will be delighted to provide you with further details on how this could be delivered in your workplace.

A Systematic Review of Workplace Interventions For People With Common Mental Health Problems (British Occupational Health Research Foundation) has found that these interventions should be cognitive in nature. The evidence found that early psychological interventions comprising CBT principles to increase activity and coping skills may be effectively delivered in the workplace for those off sick. It found that CBT is most effective for jobs that already involve a high degree of decision latitude (jobs with low decision latitude should prioritise increasing control potential accompanied by CBT interventions.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is an active-directive approach to psychotherapy which sets out to accomplish a number of things:

We can offer face to face on-site, telephone based or off-site targeted brief intervention therapy delivered by CBT trained and accredited therapists skilled in workplace counselling. We have proven that brief intervention therapy is commercial and cost effective and can be delivered to scale in multi-sited organisations. Specifically we offer face to face individual and telephone therapy. We can also run on-site group therapy depending on your personal requirements.

A recent trial programme delivered to a blue chip telecommunications company has shown significantly positive outcomes in reducing psychological problems that impact on work performance. The programme has qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrated an improvement in both employee and organisational wellbeing.

Having suffered with mental health issues for a number of years, i struggled on my own, in denial. Then i tried counselling which really didn't help me. Eventually i became overwhelmed by life in general and was referred to Marie from Occupational Health Matters, what a breath of fresh air. Throughout a protracted period of therapy, i finally received a diagnosis which was so useful to me and my employers. Due to the therapeutic intervention i received i managed to stay in work and although it may seem a little drastic, the coping strategies that I was taught helped me to survive, what was a very difficult period in my life. I always felt listened to and the therapy was adapted to my complex needs. During this time i got to know the office staff very well, and was always warmly welcomed and was treated with the greatest respect. On the whole therapy was very hard work, but worthwhile in the long run. I would recommend that anyone who is in mental distress to seek therapy, as it equips you with the tools you need to move forward into a better life.
